About Doug
From 1993 to 2007, Doug Heacock worked for a statewide research and education network organization, the last eleven years as president and CEO, where he directed a technical staff that provided commodity Internet and Internet2 access and network services to colleges, universities and public schools throughout the state. Before that, he was a user education specialist in the computing services department at a large midwestern university, where he wrote documentation and developed training materials for mainframe and microcomputer applications.
During his CEO days, Doug worked for about a year in his home office, while his organization was in transition from one office space to another. Earlier in his career, Doug also worked from home as a freelance programmer, as editor of a newsletter for an educational technology organization, and as the editor and publisher of an amateur radio newsletter.
These days, Doug works happily from a home office, writing, blogging, podcasting, fiddling with Web development, and making music. He also has a part-time gig as Director of Media and Communications at his church. You can write to him at doug at underpantsoffice dot com.
